Permission to take a course elsewhere
Please note: Students cannot be registered for courses at SJU Lancaster and also concurrently register at an outside institution in the same semester. This is due to both potential financial aid issues and reporting with the Clearinghouse at two institutions. If you are registered for courses at SJU and you are requesting to take coursework elsewhere in the same term, your request will be denied.
If your course elsewhere request is approved:
If this course elsewhere request is approved, you also must meet with your Academic Advisor to confirm if/how this course will apply toward your degree. Course elsewhere approval does not guarantee that it will meet degree requirements. Department Chair approval also is required if you intend to use the course to fulfill a major or minor requirement.
After you successfully complete the course with a C or better grade, please request an official transcript to be sent to LancasterAdmit@sju.edu.

Request a Temporary Separation from SJU Lancaster
What is a Temporary Separation from SJU?
At Saint Joseph’s University there are many ways for students to temporarily separate from the University:
A. Leave of Absence (LOA) (medical or non-medical) - Taking time away from your education for the semester. This request must be submitted before the end of Add/Drop if the student is registered for classes that term.
B. Withdraw from all Classes (medical or non-medical) - Currently enrolled in classes, but unable to complete the semester.
C. Term Away (medical or non-medical) - Undergraduate Day students only. Unable to take classes at SJU during a given semester, but able to continue taking courses at a different institution. REQUIRES approval for courses elsewhere prior to approval of the Term away during the spring or fall semesters. -
Please see this site for more information on the process to request a return following a temporary separation (medical or non-medical).
