Stephen Gunther, ’14

I am a Boston-based consultant and attorney specializing in insurance for equity vehicles invested in diverse areas of real estate, such as office, residential, and hospitality. I work for Robert M. Currey and Associates which is the largest independent risk management real estate consulting firm in the United States and represents 100+ real estate firms worldwide with aggregate values exceeding $200B. I focus on contractual risk transfer in construction documents, service agreements, software licenses and creating and managing insurance vehicles for stabilized assets and construction projects throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australasia. By controlling this volume of placements, I am able to offer unique insights on experience in the insurance marketplace through the accumulation of a wide breadth of knowledge in the real estate space and market conditions.

I was introduced to my current position by a law school classmate after practicing law for 2 years. The importance of networking and
having connections to explain and discuss roles and work expectations cannot be overstated - it truly is important. Information provided from employers to job seekers is extremely limited. Networking and being able to meet employers before taking an interview.

SJU's instructors challenge their students to explore. As a history major, I felt empowered to devote my time and resources to topics I was passionate about while staying within the confines of the course's assignments. This process helped me to develop a solution- based thought process that aids in overcoming obstacles and barriers I face in my work.

I participated in SJU's service-learning first year program which placed me with an after-school program of a women's shelter in West Philadelphia.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University and my law degree from Boston College Law School, where I focused on transactional law. Prior to joining RMC, I practiced insurance law at Cetrulo, the Boston law firm. I’m admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine and I’m a licensed insurance advisor.
