Briefly describe your position/opportunity.

I am currently working a a special education teacher anchored to two first grade classrooms. My role is to implement, support and track my caseloads’ progress to their annual IEP goals. I am responsible for leading IEP meetings, advising teachers on accommodations and supporting with RTI in the classroom.

How did you first learn about or get connected to your current position/opportunity?

After graduating from SJU’s Masters program in Special Education, I explored opportunities in Boston. I was connected to Bridge
Boston through one of my roommates from SJU. After interviewing and visiting, I knew it was the spot to start my teaching career.

How did your SJU education impact your position or professional goals?

SJU impacted my growth as not only a teacher but a person. When I began my journey in the education program, I began to grapple with the challenges in the education system. Through field placements, service, and eventually student teaching I found myself empowered and inspired to be an agent of change for not only myself but my future students. The education at SJU opened my mind and prepared my heart to support and love my students.

Did you participate in any experiential learning activities (internship, co-op, study abroad, etc.) while at SJU?

During my time at SJU, I was a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta, a weekly service leader, a member of Kappa Delta Pi, and a part of the running club. I also studied abroad in Madrid, Spain in the fall of 2016.

SJU does an incredible job preparing its graduates for a bright future after graduation. Don’t forget to take hold of all the opportunities to develop yourself as a professional on campus and remember to treasure each moment!
