Jenna Stoneroad, ’22

This position is very flexible but will focus on assisting coordinators of two parish social centers with planning and evaluation, performing registration interviews and data collection for mothers. In addition, I will work directly with social workers on home visits and provide care to the children at the social center.

I learned about this position through the Saint Joseph's post-graduate volunteer fair.

SJU impacted my professional goals through the weekly service program. Prior to volunteering with weekly service I had a very clear goal of what my life would be. I would attend four years of undergraduate followed by four years of medical school and then I would become a doctor and live a happy life. When I began volunteering with weekly service there was a joy that I experienced like I never had before. I soon realized that I wanted to continue this work for the rest of my life and through my Spanish education it was brought to my attention the inequities in healthcare for the Spanish-speaking population. Thus, after graduation I decided to do a year of service in Bolivia and following this attend medical school and earn a master's in public health so that I can continue this work in the future. Dr. Nelson, Dr. Bhatt, and Beth McNamee have truly been the biggest inspirations to my current journey.
