Jacinta Nguyen, ’21

I COVID-screen every one who comes into Virginia Mason hospital (a new job created because of the corona virus) and I help coordinate patients with the department floors. I check temperatures and interact with both symptomatic and asymptotic patients. I enforce all new policies and regulations at the hospital for new patients, as well as take belongings for patients.

I applied to this job through job searches in downtown Seattle, and this job was available to me.

I graduated with a chemical biology degree with a minor in behavioral neuroscience and still am applying to medical school, however having the experience of being in the Becker lab and working at the university bookstore at the same time I studied during undergrad help build me up for support. I work at the hospital while being a full time student attending shoreline community college for my biotechnology certification AND applying to medical school. I wouldn’t have been able to manage all of this if it weren’t for my time at SJU.

I was a part of a  fellowship to teach science high school students and teach grade school students at Gompers and Over Brook high school. I was also a teacher assistant for a biology class at SJU, as well as being involved in Dr. Becker Neuro lab 

I will be attending Shoreline Community College and earning a Biotechnology Certification

I’m working to pay off SJU student debt, while being a full time student and currently applying to medical school. My certification would help with getting higher level science courses.
