Immunology
This two-year fellowship in Immunology at Johnson & Johnson offers unique experiences that enable the fellow to advance and apply skills primarily in Medical Communications (formerly Medical Information and Knowledge Integration) as well as across various other roles within Medical Affairs including Scientific Communications, MSL Communications, U.S. Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area, and Real-World Value & Evidence. The fellow may also have the opportunity to support Medical Information booths at national medical conferences and gain field experience by shadowing a Medical Science liaison, based upon availability.
The fellow will gain experience in one or more therapeutic area within the Immunology franchise including Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and/or Autoantibody. Opportunities will include supporting approved products as well as investigational agents or new indications. The fellow will hone skills in critiquing and communicating scientific information to a variety of audiences, including internal business partners and externally with healthcare professionals and healthcare decision makers.
Medical Communications
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the assigned therapeutic area(s) which may include Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and/or Autoantibody.
- Enhance skills in scientific literature retrieval, analysis, and communication.
- Improve scientific writing skills by authoring fair and balanced scientific response letters and communications of product information.
- Collaborate internally and in conjunction with vendor partners to develop customer-facing scientific exchange materials.
- Provide medical review for scientific exchange and promotional materials.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and assist with ad-hoc initiatives within Medical Affairs
- Staff medical booths at national immunology conferences

Hematologic Malignancies Oncology
The two-year Medical Affairs fellowship in Hematologic Malignancies at Johnson & Johnson offers unique rotational experiences that enable the fellow to advance and apply skills across various roles including Medical and Scientific Communications, Medical Excellence, and Real-World Value & Evidence. The fellow may also have the opportunity to gain field experience by shadowing a Medical Science liaison, based upon availability.
First year experiences:
In the Medical and Scientific Communications component, the fellow will hone skills in critiquing and communicating scientific information to a variety of audiences, including internal business partners and externally with healthcare professionals and healthcare decision makers. The fellow will also analyze and interpret clinical information to author and maintain various field medical resources.
Second year experiences:
In the 6-month Medical Excellence component, the fellow will build proficiency with conducting medical market research and analyzing key insights to inform medical strategy.
In the 3-month real-world value and evidence (RWV&E) component, the fellow will develop knowledge to interpret real-world data and collaborate with data scientists to gain familiarity with various real-world databases, research methodology, and protocol development.
Medical and Scientific Communications (15 months)
- Enhance skills in scientific literature retrieval, analysis, and communication.
- Improve scientific writing skills by authoring fair and balanced scientific response letters and communications of product information.
- Provide medical review for scientific exchange and promotional materials.
- Staff medical booths at national oncology conferences including American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society of Hematology (ASH).
- Support the development and execution of a comprehensive key opinion leader engagement strategy, including congress engagement.
- Provide support for development of publications (abstract, presentations, manuscripts) as well as amplification of the published data.
- Collaborate internally and in conjunction with vendor partners to develop customer-facing scientific exchange materials.
- Engage with medical affairs colleagues in the development of slide decks and other medical resources.
- Collaborate with U.S. Hematology Medical Affairs colleagues across Field Medical and internal Medical Affairs on various ad-hoc projects.
Medical Excellence (6 months)
- Analyze real-time healthcare provider sentiment across multiple communication channels.
- Conduct medical market research to answer key business questions.
- Identify insights from Oncology Pathways.
- Interpret real-world data and support key business questions.
- Inform Medical Affairs health equity strategy.
Real-World Value and Evidence (3 months)
- Conduct literature reviews to identify evidence gaps and to inform research study conceptualization.
- Develop knowledge and skills to conduct basic economic analysis and comparative effectiveness analysis.
- Create reactive and/or proactive communication materials, including scientific publications, slide decks, and dossiers.
- Support cross-functional dissemination of RWV&E studies and results.
- Assist in planning, execution and interpretation of real-world studies to demonstrate unmet medical needs and value of pharmaceutical products.
