Food, Pharma and Healthcare Experiential Learning
Co-Op Program
Operated within the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the Cooperative Education Program at Saint Joseph’s University unites the classroom and the workplace by giving students two full-time, paid work opportunities equivalent to one full year of full-time job experience. By participating in a co-op, you can build your resume, gain real work experience, get ahead in your career goals and still graduate in four years.
More than 15 majors offer co-op programs at Saint Joseph’s, including the food marketing and pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing majors. Students have completed co-ops in companies such as:
- Acme
- Cencora
- Bayer Healthcare
- Johnson & Johnson
- PepsiCo
- The Hershey Company
Food marketing majors can visit the Academy of Food Marketing website to learn more about food marketing co-op opportunities.
Pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing majors can visit the Co-Op Program website to learn more about co-op opportunities.
Internships
Saint Joseph’s University students have access to many internship opportunities which, for most students, often lead to employment in the food, pharmaceutical or healthcare marketing and business industries after graduation. Internships can help them secure roles such as:
- Entry-level sales and marketing representative
- Market research
- Data analyst
- Account manager
- Brand/product manager
- Project manager
- Strategic planner
- Creative planner for advertising agencies
-
Internships may be completed for academic credit. Students can receive up to 3 credits (general elective) for the completion of an approved internship.
To be eligible students must be in good standing and currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Internship for credit approval is restricted to students in their junior and senior years.
-
Students seeking academic credit for an internship must seek departmental approval before accepting and starting the internship. A letter from the company outlining the intern’s responsibilities, start and end dates and supervising manager must be submitted to the department. The internship manager at the sponsoring company must agree to provide feedback about the student’s performance that will be considered as part of the student’s grade.
Students should approach a faculty member to supervise the internship. Once the faculty has reviewed the letter of appointment, discussed the position with the student and agreed to supervise the internship, the student will enroll in the internship class, which will be applied to a general elective, not a course in their major.
