Computational Engineering and Applied Physics Minor
Saint Joseph's University offers an interdisciplinary study across the departments of computer science, physics, and mathematics for students interested in minoring in computational engineering & applied physics. This interdisciplinary minor gives you a broad understanding of all the elements of computational science and engineering to ensure that you leave the program with the knowledge you need to be competitive in your field.
What is Computational Engineering and Applied Physics?
Computational engineering is a discipline that deals with the development and application of computational (computer-related) and numerical techniques to solve large and complex problems.
Applied physics refers to the application or use of the science of physics to help humans solve problems.
With a minor in computational engineering and applied physics, you will develop an understanding of the development and application of computational models and simulations. You'll solve complex physical problems arising in engineering analysis and design (computational engineering) as well as natural phenomena. This foundational understanding will allow you to apply concepts of computer science, physics, and mathematics to solve technical problems in your internships, co-ops or first job after graduation.
In your computer science, engineering and physics courses, you learn how to design systems, components, or processes to meet specified requirements and how to effectively communicate this information. You'll learn how to articulate the social, professional, ethical and legal aspects of a computational environment.
Ways to Study Computational Engineering and Applied Physics
The program is available as a minor. Many students often decide to double major or add minors to their studies, some common majors that choose a minor in computational engineering & applied physics include:
- Computer Science
