Medical Assistance
It is important to receive medical attention as soon as possible following a sexual assault. Treatment for injuries, sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV medication are all options, in addition to a forensic exam.
A forensic exam, completed by a medical practitioner, is the process through which physical evidence is collected. It is recommended that individuals who wish to pursue legal action receive this examination. Individuals who receive a forensic exam should not shower, bathe, douche, brush their teeth, or otherwise discard or conceal any evidence. Forensic exams are free of charge to victims of assault and will not be billed to the victim or the insurance company. The University does provide escorts for students to get medical assistance. You can learn more about escorts on the Public Safety website.
