Student Health Policy and Procedures
Student Health maintains policies and procedures related to student health matters, such as
immunizations, student health insurance, and medical absences. Applicable policies are available online at https://www.sju.edu/studenthealth.
Medical Absence Guidelines
Student Health does not provide medical excuse notes for students due to illness, injury and/ or mental health problems that may lead to missed classes, exams or academic deadlines. Students are encouraged to make healthy and mature decisions when they are sick. This includes healthy eating, adequate sleeping, following medical advice, and possibly missing classes when ill.
Temporary Separation from the University
For students at Hawk Hill and University City:
At Saint Joseph’s University, there are many ways for students to temporarily separate from the University:
- Leave of Absence (LOA) - medical/mental health or non-medical
- Withdrawal from all Classes - medical/mental health or non-medical
- Term Away - medical/mental health or non-medical ( Undergraduate students only)

Email Statement on the Expected Student Use of SJU Email Account
All electronic communication from the University is directed exclusively to a student’s provided Saint Joseph’s University email account. Students are expected to access their University email account on a regular basis, however, daily access is recommended to stay abreast of important, time-sensitive information. University departments and faculty routinely will use email to communicate important campus, academic program, and course information.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) maintains policies and procedures governing the use of University technology resources. As appropriate, reported violations of these policies by students may be subject to the University’s Community Standards process. Applicable policies, including the Policy Governing the Use of Information Resources, are available online.

Disability Services
The Office of Student Disability Services provides academic accommodations to eligible students to ensure equal access to the learning environment. We use an interactive, individualized process to establish appropriate academic accommodations on the basis of a meeting with you and a review of any supporting documentation you provide.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Counseling and Psychological Services, located at Hawk Hill in Merion Gardens, at the University City location in Whitecar Hall, and in the Lancaster location in the Health and Wellness Suite, promotes the psychological wellbeing of Saint Joseph’s University students through the provision of a variety of therapeutic interventions and outreach programs. The delivery of these services is framed by “transformative learning goals” and occurs within a campus climate that supports the whole person; academically, socially, physically and spiritually.

Library
Together, the F.A. Drexel Library and Post Learning Commons at Hawk Hill, the Griffith Library in University City, and the Greenfield Library in Lancaster comprise the Saint Joseph’s University Libraries. The Hawk Hill campus library is between the Barbelin building and the Science Center. The University City library is located in Griffith Hall, Suite 208 at 43rd Street and Woodland Avenue in the University City section of Philadelphia. The Greenfield Library is located at 850 Greenfield Road in Lancaster, PA.
