Anti-Hazing Policy
Saint Joseph’s University (“the University”) does not tolerate hazing in any form. The University believes that hazing is contrary to the teaching of long-standing religious and moral principles that underscore human dignity and contradicts an environment of friendship, maturity and charity within its collegiate community. Anyone found responsible for violating this Antihazing Policy (“the Policy”) may face disciplinary action from the University, and may also face criminal charges under state law, including The Timothy J. Piazza Antihazing Law, 18 Pa. C.S. § 2801, et seq.

Bullying Policy
Bullying behavior creates feelings of defenselessness, fear, and injustice and undermines a person’s dignity. The University strictly prohibits bullying. Bullying is actions of a person (or group of persons) directed towards another person or group of persons in a severe, pervasive, or persistent manner, which are intended to hurt, intimidate, degrade, humiliate, and/or undermine. Bullying can occur through one isolated, but severe, incident, or through engaging in any course of conduct that is likely to seriously annoy or alarm another person (or group of persons) in a severe, pervasive, or persistent manner.. Bullying can take many forms, including, but not limited to, verbal (teasing, directly threatening, name-calling), social (intentionally and maliciously spreading false information, intentionally isolating), and physical (hitting, punching, shoving, or other unwanted contact). Bullying can be in person, verbal or non-verbal through actions, and/or through electronic, social media, or other communications. Bullying creates a risk to the health or safety of the University community. Anyone found to engage in bullying behavior may be subject to disciplinary action.

Off-Campus Address & Emergency Contact information Policy
To ensure that students receive important University information whether residing in University housing or off-campus, all students (full-time and part-time students; all undergraduate, professional, and graduate students) are required to register the following information with the University.
Information must be verified or provided by the end of the add/drop period of each fall and spring semester, and updated by the student should there be any changes throughout the year.
Providing this information to the University ensures that students will receive all information communicated by the University for a variety of issues, including accessing student services, and safety and security in the community. This information will be used only for educational purposes and is regulated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Contact Phone Number (e.g. cell phone): All students are required to provide the University with a telephone number where they can be contacted (e.g. cell phone).
- Emergency Contact Information: All students are required to provide the University with the name, relationship, and current telephone number of a person whom they designate as their emergency contact person. Emergency contacts will only be contacted by University officials in the event that a student is involved in an emergency situation, most often an unexpected health emergency.
- Off-Campus Address Information: Students not residing in University housing are required to provide the University with their local off-campus address (off-campus student), or confirm that they are commuting from their permanent home address (commuter student). For some students, providing off-campus address information is also required by the Philadelphia Educational Housing District Law (see https://www.sju.edu/offices/student-life/off-campus/resources).
Failure to provide this information or providing false or incomplete information may be considered a violation of the University’s Community Standards. A disciplinary hold may also be placed on a student’s account at any time for failing to provide complete or accurate information.
In addition to providing the University with the above information, all students are strongly encouraged to register with the University’s Emergency Notification System to receive updated emergency information via text message to their cell phone or designated device.
