Ziegler Named Back-to-Back Big 5 Player of the Week
Ziegler registered the fourth triple-double in program history to become the first Hawk in nearly 36 years to achieve a triple-double.
Saint Joseph's junior Laura Ziegler earned her second-consecutive Big 5 Player of the Week honor on Monday afternoon, announced by organization officials.
Ziegler registered the fourth triple-double in program history while 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. The Dane padded the stat sheet, tallying 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the win over Saint Francis to become the first Hawk in nearly 36 years to achieve a triple-double. Ziegler joined Debbie Black, Joanne Burke and Ellen Clark as the only four players program history to reach the feat.
The reigning A-10 and Big 5 Player of the Week followed the performance with 12 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the defeat to Villanova, adding two blocks to her tally for the third-consecutive game. It marked the fifth-straight game that Ziegler had posted at least a double-double, moving her to 27 career double-doubles.
Ziegler ranks ninth in the country, averaging 11.0 rebounds per game. Her six double-doubles on the season are tied for second-most in the NCAA, also ranking second in defensive rebounds per game with 8.9.
St. Joe's returns to action on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Big 5 Classic tripleheader at the Finneran Pavilion at Villanova. The Hawks face Drexel in the third-place game, scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
