Make Life Sweet

Katelyn Singley, BS '18, has channeled her childhood loves of baking and crafting into CupKate’s with the goal of making life sweet for every customer who walks through the door. In addition to the revolving menu of decadent cupcakes, the pink-themed bakery’s claim to fame might just be its Philly sports cookies. From World Series cookies to unicorn birthday cakes, Singley enjoys the creative process behind every treat.

“The best part about being a business owner is being able to create,” she says. “Bringing a vision to fruition is very fulfilling.”

Quick Bites

Singley combines CupKate’s cookies and cupcakes into a must-try Cookie Dough Cupcake: It’s a vanilla-based cupcake with chocolate chips, topped with buttercream icing and edible cookie dough.

Singley made cookies for the entire Phillies team during their 2022 journey to the World Series.

CupKate’s was named one of the best bakeries in Delaware by Wilmington Today.

Can’t-miss menu item?

Our cupcakes! We have six staple flavors — red velvet, peanut butter, cookie dough, confetti, chocolate and vanilla — and rotate in two or more deluxe flavors every week like Oreo birthday cake and lemon raspberry.

Inspiration for going into the food biz?

I’ve always been creative and food was another medium for me that I chose to pursue professionally. My mom baked a lot when I was younger and she and my grandmother were always crafting; as a result, so did I!

Most memorable restaurateur moment/experience?

There have been many, from making the Phillies cookies to go to the World Series in 2022, to having lines out the door for Super Bowl cookies in 2023 and 2025, and being featured in various magazines and podcasts.

How has your SJU education impacted you as an entrepreneur?

My SJU education helped me form a strong foundation in business. It helped me make a business plan and evaluate my business idea. It continues to help me market my business through my marketing degree.

Favorite guests you’ve served?

The entire Phillies team!

How would you describe your shop to someone who has never been there before?

Bright, PINK and fun! Our sweets are unique and draw attention!

If you could make an SJU-themed meal or dish, what would you serve?

I would serve a Barbelin Gingerbread house. Fun fact: I did! For Christmas of 2023, we made a Barb gingerbread house.

Secret to a great meal?
