Senior Liquidity Reporting and Innovation Analyst at Bank of America

A Data-Centric Vision for the Future

Jarrett Hurms, BA ’18, MSBIA ’19, is using his data analytics skills and knowledge at Bank of America to drive automation initiatives, as well as champion and introduce emerging technologies. Hurms graduated from Saint Joseph’s with a major in economics and a minor in English

“I got to take what I learned from Laura Crispin, PhD, about econometrics research and write my own method for research, which took me through many steps of the analytic process,” Hurms says. “Much of what I've learned from Dr. Crispin I still think about and apply to my career today.”

Since the completion of his master’s degree, Hurms is sharing his industry experiences and knowledge with others, starting with his return to Saint Joseph’s as an adjunct professor in the Department of Decision and System Sciences.

“I was given the opportunity to teach in the DSS department and was able to meet aa lot of students with the same thirst for knowledge I had. It’s an honor to be able to help shape their beginning or continuing careers,” Hurms says.

Hurms is currently serving as an advocate for the Charlotte community as chair of the Transit Services Advisory Council (TSAC), focusing his efforts on finding solutions for issues like bus driver shortages, long wait times and maintenance and safety issues. He also serves as chair of the Advisory Board for WFAE (Charlotte-area NPR network station) where he is a conduit for the diverse needs and interests of the Charlotte community.

Hurms hopes to instill the lessons he’s learned in patience, perseverance and confidence in future generations.

“I would love to take my knowledge and spread it to a larger audience, whether by speaking at conferences, mentoring others or finding other ways to give back,” he says.
