Joseph Moran, D.O., '11, '13 (M.S.)

I attended SJU as an undergraduate and graduate student majoring earning a BS and MS in Biology. This ultimately led me to PCOM for medical school and I am now in residency finishing my training as an Internal Medicine Physician. I decided to attend PCOM after talking to fellow SJU alums who ended up attending PCOM and had a great experience.

Both the Undergraduate and Graduate SJU Biology programs gave me a strong background in research which prepared me for the clinical research that I still am involved in today. They offered outstanding high level biology and physiology courses which prepared me exceptionally well for similar courses in medical school. The program refined my presentation skills and gave exceptional teaching in the skill of scientific writing which has helped me win several awards at abstract competitions over the years. Most importantly, my professors taught me integrity and professionalism.

My best advice for SJU students and alumni pursuing medical careers is to avoid becoming discouraged early in your academic career. The coursework and research in the SJU biology program can be extremely challenging. You need to embrace the challenge, avoid becoming frustrated and appreciate that the professors are doing a tremendous job preparing you for professional school.
