Student Financial Responsibility Agreement
When you are registering, you will be required to CLICK the “I AGREE” button, which contains the following statement:
PAYMENT OF FEES/PROMISE TO PAY
I understand that when I register for any class at Saint Joseph’s University, or receive any service from Saint Joseph’s University, I accept full responsibility to pay all tuition, fees and other associated costs assessed at any time as a result of my registration and/or receipt of services, notwithstanding any anticipated third-party resource, including but not limited to financial aid, family gift, employer reimbursement or any other external resource. I further understand and agree that my registration and acceptance of these terms constitutes a promissory note agreement (i.e., a financial obligation in the form of an educational loan as defined by the U.S. Bankruptcy Code at 11 U.S.C. §523(a)(8)) in which Saint Joseph’s University is providing me educational services, deferring some or all of my payment obligation for those services, and I promise to pay for all assessed tuition, fees and other associated costs by the published or assigned due date.)
I understand and agree that if I drop or withdraw from some or all of the classes for which I register, I will be responsible for paying all or a portion of tuition and fees in accordance with Saint Joseph’s University’s Tuition Refund Policies. I have read the terms and conditions of the published Tuition Refund Policies in the Tuition and Fees section of the catalog for the College in which I am enrolled. I further understand that my failure to attend class or receive a bill does not absolve me of my financial responsibility as described above.
DELINQUENT ACCOUNT/COLLECTION
Financial Hold: I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing Saint Joseph’s University by the scheduled due date, Saint Joseph’s University will place a financial hold on my student account, preventing me from registering for future classes, or receiving my diploma. The Official Transcript & Diploma Financial Hold Policy is as follows: Students are responsible for paying all tuition, fees, fines, charges and other associated amounts incurred during their enrollment at Saint Joseph’s University, including graduation. Financial holds are imposed for an outstanding student account balance of any amount. Financial holds generally restrict class registration along with access to diplomas.
Account Balance under $100
The University will assess a financial hold for any student whose account balance is under $100. However, if a student has an account balance below $100, the University will allow a one-time release of a diploma. The financial hold will then be reinstated. Any subsequent request for a diploma will be honored when the student either (i) pays the account balance in full; or (ii) provided that the student has not already defaulted on a payment plan, enters into a payment plan to address the balance.
Account Balance of $100 or more
Saint Joseph’s University will assess a financial hold (i) for any student whose account balance is $100 or more; or (ii) any student who has outstanding fees of any amount resulting from conduct sanctions, other penalties or sanctions, or restitution. The University will not issue a diploma to students who have a financial hold of $100 or more on their student account until the student either: (i) pays the account balance in full; or (ii) provided that the student has not already defaulted on a payment plan, enters into a payment plan to address the balance. If the student enters into a payment (and has not previously defaulted on a payment plan), the University will allow a one-time release of a diploma. The financial hold will then be reinstated. Financial holds also restrict students from registering for classes for future semesters.
Official Transcripts
Upon request by the student, Saint Joseph’s University may, in its sole discretion, either release the student’s full official transcript or release a partial official transcript. A partial official transcript is an abbreviated version that is limited to the credits or clock hours for academic term(s) in which the student received federal financial aid and paid all institutional charges (or entered into a payment plan to address such charges) for the academic term(s) at the time of the request. Saint Joseph’s University may withhold transcript credits from the academic term(s) in which the student has not received federal financial aid or has not paid for all institutional charges for the academic term(s).
Official transcripts may be withheld entirely for students who have not received any federal financial aid during their enrollment and have a financial hold assessed to their account. Official transcripts may be withheld entirely for students who have not fully paid institutional charges (or entered into a payment plan) for all academic term(s). (For example, a first-time student attends during the fall 2024 and winter 2025 semesters and then subsequently withdraws. If the student either did not pay the full balance owed for both semesters or did not enter into a payment plan for both semesters, then the University may withhold the full official transcript.)
Late Payment Charge: I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing Saint Joseph’s University by the scheduled due date, Saint Joseph’s University will assess late payment charges each semester at the rate of $50 for balances between $500 and $999.99 and $100 late charges for balances exceeding $1000.
Collection Agency Fees: I understand and accept that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing Saint Joseph’s University by the scheduled due date, and fail to make acceptable payment arrangements to bring my account current, Saint Joseph’s University may refer my delinquent account to a collection agency. I further understand that I am responsible for paying the collection agency fee which may be based on a percentage at a maximum of 33.3% percent of my delinquent account, together with all reasonable costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees, necessary for the collection of my delinquent account.

METHOD OF BILLING
I understand that Saint Joseph’s University uses electronic billing (e-bill) as its official billing method, and therefore I am responsible for viewing and paying my student account e-bill by the scheduled due date. I further understand that failure to review my e-bill does not constitute a valid reason for not paying my bill on time. E-bill information is available at Nelnet via the Nest.
BILLING ERRORS
I understand that administrative, clerical or technical billing errors do not absolve me of my financial responsibility to pay the correct amount of tuition, fees and other associated financial obligations assessed as a result of my registration at Saint Joseph’s University.
RETURNED PAYMENTS/FAILED PAYMENT AGREEMENTS
If a payment made to my student account is returned by the bank for any reason, I agree to repay the original amount of the payment plus a returned payment fee of $40.00.
