Experiential Learning
Refer to the links below for help with planning for these experiential learning opportunities.
Study Abroad - begin planning by reviewing the Center for International Programs (CIP) website and scheduling a time to talk with a CIP staff member.
Service Learning - Service-Learning is a form of experience-based education where students engage in service as part of their academic course work. Please see the Faith-Justice Institute website for a list of service learning courses that will be offered in the upcoming semester.
Internships/CO-OP - talk with your advisor about opportunities that are available through your department. If you are an HSB major, please talk with Dr. Todd Krug about the HSB Co-op Program.
Independent Research - talk with your advisor about opportunities that are available through your department. If pursuing an independent study for next semester, start the process by talking with the faculty member who will serve as your mentor. Submit an Independent Study request using the online form.
Build Your Schedule
In advance of your meeting with your advisor, use the following tools and resources to prepare:
- View your DegreeWorks Audit to identify courses remaining for your degree. USCI Legacy students should also use the Legacy Curriculum Worksheets to plan.
- Use the typical course sequence for your major and/or the Four Year Planner to map out possible course options for next semester as well as future semesters.
- Consider your academic goals and and career preparation when devising your plan. If needed, your Advising Center can help with your preliminary planning.
- Build your schedule using the Schedule Builder (Fillable PDF). Always have backup plans in case your preferred course sections are closed.
- If planning on an Independent Study for next semester, you must obtain approval from your Faculty Mentor, Department Chair, and Associate Dean. Use this form to submit your request.
- If you are considering a Course Overload, your Advisor and Associate Dean approval are required. Course overload approval is required when you expect to exceed the allow credits in a semester and/or plan to register for more than five 3+ credit courses in a given semester. Use this form to submit your request.
- Meet with your advisor to discuss your academic and career-related goals, review your course plan for next semester, and obtain your PIN. Important Reminder: Only your advisor can release your PIN. Your Advising Center cannot help with this request.
