Wistar Institute
The partnership between Saint Joseph's University and The Wistar Institute serves to provide a collaborative and multi-disciplinary doctoral training that represents the basic and translational aspects of cancer research.

A portion of the educational program is to be completed at The Wistar Institute is located at 3601 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Students are to complete doctoral research at the Wistar Cancer Center and two four-week laboratory rotations.
The program is delivered in a traditional classroom setting with face-to-face delivery. There are no additional costs to the student to complete their degree through this pathway. Wistar will provide a $6,100 student stipend during the first year of participation to be dispersed in two parts, once during fall semester and once during the spring semester. The research advisor will be responsible for the student's stipend for the second year and onward.

Lankenau Institute for Medical Research
Lankenau Institute for Medical Research offers a unique research experience to students seeking to contribute to revolutionary immunotherapy studies furthering the discovery of remedies for cancer, cardiovascular, autoimmune, gastrointestinal and other diseases.
Saint Joseph’s University Master of Science (M.S.) in Biology students who are interested in increasing their factual understanding of a wide range of life science topics while developing their skills as an experimental scientist are eligible to seek experience at Lankenau Institute for Medical Research. Through this partnership, students are able to conduct field research in the laboratory and collaborate with leading researchers to complete their thesis project with a $1,000/year tuition scholarship. Students in both the two-year M.S. in Biology program and the final year of the 4+1 B.S./M.S. in Biology qualify for this opportunity pending completion of the program-specific requirements.

Two-Year M.S. in Biology Program:
- Students must complete BIO 785 Introduction to Research during the fall semester of their first year.
- Students will enroll in BIO 799 Master’s Research in all subsequent semesters wherein the field experience will take place and the thesis project will be developed.
4+1 Bachelor of Science in Biology to Master of Science in Biology Program:
- Prior to applying to the 4+1 Program, Bachelor of Science in Biology juniors must identify a Research Advisor with whom they will complete their master’s thesis project and obtain a letter of recommendation from their Advisor.
- In Graduate Year 1, Students will enroll in BIO 799 Master’s Research each semester wherein the field experience will take place and the thesis project will be developed.
