Internships

Many majors at Saint Joseph's offer an opportunity to receive credit for an internship. When deciding if this is the best route for you consider the following:

• Does my major offer academic credit for internships?
• What are the requirements and do I meet them?
• Does my internship site meet the requirements?
• Have I completed all the proper paperwork?

There is value in both paid and unpaid internship experiences. When reviewing your resume for full-time opportunities, employers will be focused on the skills that you gained from the experience and how you will apply them to support their organization.

It’s never too early to get an internship! While some employers may have requirements around class level, many are just looking to hire the right student for the role. You want to consider whether you would prefer to intern during the fall or spring semester while in class or devote your summer to an internship experience. Also, consider your other goals for your time at St. Joe's. Do you want to study abroad? Be a Summer Scholar? Plan appropriately to fit it all in. The Career Development Center offers a "Map a Plan" activity if you would like to walk through your time left on campus.

Internships are a key component to graduate student professional development. They offer an opportunity not only for skill development but to gain an insider perspective on an industry or a specific career path. An internship might make sense for a graduate student if you went directly from an undergraduate to a graduate program or if you are making a career change and are seeking direct experience in your new field of choice.
