Political Science Student Organizations

Pi Sigma Alpha (PSA), the national political science honor society, was founded in 1920 to encourage the scientific and practical study of problems of government, to foster reforms in our governmental machinery, and to aid in the education of the electorate in problems of government. Today PSA hosts chapters on nearly 850 campuses and has inducted more than 300,000 members.

The Eta Nu chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was established at Saint Joseph’s University in 1976. Each year those who display passion for politics and policy and have achieved academic excellence in their studies are inducted. Members organize and participate in activities on campus and a mentorship program for first-year Political Science majors.

Undergraduate Membership Criteria for the Eta Nu Chapter at Saint Joseph's:

• Declaration of Political Science major or minor
• Completion at least six courses in the major or minor at Saint Joseph's
• Achievement of a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher in all courses and B or higher in all political science courses

Sigma Iota Rho is an interdisciplinary honor society in the field of international affairs. The Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Iota Rho at Saint Joseph's University was established in March 2014. Membership benefits include a membership certificate, lapel pin, graduation regalia and a copy of SIRs Journal of International Relations. The society also disseminates occasional newsletters, helps students access professional networks and provides career development information for students. 

Sigma Iota Rho Undergraduate Membership Criteria

Juniors and seniors at Saint Joseph's University may be elected to join the Epsilon Omega Chapter if they meet or exceed the following qualifications: 

• Have completed course work in international studies including courses in economics, history and political science.
• Have attained junior standing and completed at least 21 hours of course work toward the international relations major, including at least two upper-division IR courses.
• Have attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher in all courses and no B- or lower grade(s) in upper division IR courses.
• Must maintain full-time student status of at least 12 hours to be a voting member or hold an office.
