Sociology & Criminal Justice Internships
Overview
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers two undergraduate internship options which include course credit. Both internships provide the opportunity to work in a criminal justice, social service or health care setting for a semester to gain practical work experience. Permission from the internship director, Dr. Elizabeth Lee, is required. Internships are offered every fall, spring and summer semester.

Students desiring internships must meet the following overall GPA standards:
- 3 credits (10 hours per week; 140 hours per semester)…………2.0 GPA
- 6 credits (16 hours per week; 224 hours per semester)………..2.5 GPA
- 9 credits (24 hours per week; 336 hours per semester)………..3.0 GPA

Students may use only 3 credits (of any internship) to satisfy major requirements. The remaining credits must be elective credits. To clarify:
- 6 credit internship – 3 credits will be applied to the major, 3 credits general elective
- 9 credit internship – 3 credits will be applied to the major, 6 credits general elective

- 40% of grade = Work experience in placement
- 20% of grade = Journal (includes entry for each day at internship and 1-page description of internship)
- 40% of grade = Paper (research paper on topic related to internship)
