USciences Honors Bicentennial Graduates

In May 2021 we honor our Bicentennial graduates at our 200th Commencement Ceremony. This special anniversary ceremony will be hosted virtually on May 26, 2021.
The more than 500 graduates will receive a commemorative Bicentennial zipper pull to honor the celebration.
Bernard A. Harris Jr., MD, the first African American to walk in space, was selected to address the Class of 2021. Dr. Harris, a physician and astronaut, is a leader in STEM education and is CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative. Dr. Harris conducted research at NASA for many years, developing in-flight medical devices to extend astronaut stays in space. He also logged more than 400 hours and traveled over 7.2 million miles in space.
Dr. Harris will address the class and receive an honorary doctor of science degree during the ceremony. Dr. Harris earned his bachelor of science and master of business administration from University of Houston, master of medical science from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and a doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Medicine.
