Whether you are a first-year student who has had a change of heart, a community college graduate who is looking to earn a bachelor’s degree, or anything in between, being a transfer student is challenging. Motivating yourself to conduct extensive research and send in applications while dealing with your current coursework can be daunting.

Here at St. Joe’s, we try to make it easy, and who better to tell you the top five reasons to transfer to Saint Joseph’s University than someone who’s already done it. My name is Emma Capron and I transferred to Hawk Hill as a junior in the spring of 2022. Now that I have a semester behind me, I can tell you firsthand that, although the transfer process can be difficult at times, the reward of landing at a great school like St. Joe’s far outweighs any challenges.

  1. Rolling Admissions. The deadline to submit your application as a transfer student is rolling, meaning there is no hard deadline. St. Joe’s honors this to the fullest extent, as I was accepted into the school on the first day of the 2022 spring semester, and I was attending classes two days later.
  1. Transfer-Friendly Housing. All transfer students are assigned to a dorm with at least one transfer student. All transfer students also have the opportunity to live in a transfer-specific housing arrangement. Additionally, transfer students who live within a 30-mile radius of campus have the option to commute. As an added bonus, during the admission process, St. Joe’s will connect you with an enrolled transfer student to help answer any questions or concerns you might have, so by the time you get here, you’ll already have a friend in the making.
  1. Making Friends is Easy. Afraid it will be difficult to make friends as a transfer student? Worry not! St. Joe’s understands that being a transfer student is a unique experience with its own set of challenges, so to better help you acclimate to campus life, the University hosts a variety of events just for transfer students. These events range from dinners to sporting events to help support students as they become part of the St. Joe’s community.
  1. Block Transfer. For transfer students, myself included, the number of credits a prospective university will accept is a make or break situation. The Transfer Evaluation System (TES) makes it easy to complete a credit evaluation online. If you have already obtained an associate’s degree, St. Joe’s makes the process even easier with block transfer. Block transfer allows you to transfer over any and all courses that satisfy the general education program requirements at your last school, even if they are not the exact courses that St. Joe’s offers.
  1. Transfer-Inclusive Financial Aid. St. Joe’s considers all students, transfers included, with a certain academic standing for a merit scholarship. Additionally, students transferring from community college who are part of Phi Theta Kappa are considered for a scholarship. Phi Theta Kappa is an invitation-only honors society that recognizes students for their outstanding academic achievements.

Transferring was made easy for me thanks to the hands-on support that Saint Joseph’s University has to offer. I know that if you join us here, you will see for yourself why St. Joe’s is the perfect place to continue your academic career.
