PHILADELPHIA (January 3, 2018) — Saint Joseph’s University earned a 2018 Military Friendly® School designation by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM Jobs, and Military Spouse. The University is one of roughly 800 schools nationwide to be included. SJU also received the Gold Level Award, honoring programs that score within 20 percent of the 10th ranked institution in a given category.

“At SJU we strive for the same qualities that align with Military Friendly status,” says Hank Gillen, director of Veterans Services. “This recognition has enhanced our public profile and has put us in the position to become a thought leader for veterans services in higher education.”

Founded in 2014, Saint Joseph’s Office of Veterans Services, which is housed in the Haub School of Business, offers a central place for student veterans to meet with experienced staff for academic and specialized support. Under the direction of this office, the University also offers entrepreneurship programs to help veterans jumpstart their own businesses.

Published annually, Military Friendly® Schools is a comprehensive resource that helps veterans select the best college, university or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career. Factors such as student retention, graduation, job placement and loan repayment and persistence comprise their rating process. For more than a decade, Military Friendly® ratings have set the standard for companies and colleges demonstrating positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families.

The Office of Veterans Services is committed to honoring those who have served our country by providing opportunities for education and career advancement. The office develops and implements Entrepreneurship Programs for Veterans, with specific emphasis on disabled veterans; supports the student-veteran community, including dependents, with a suite of programs and services that ensure full utilization of entitled benefits; and builds a network of veteran-friendly businesses, mentors and civic organizations that are dedicated to career development and job placement initiatives.

SJU’s Veterans Services is ranked nationally at No. 4 by U.S. News & World Report, and is designated a Military Times “Best College for Veterans.”
