Who are the Philadelphia Freedoms?

Why can’t I get Sir Elton John’s "Philadelphia Freedom" song out of my head? Is there any connection?

John wrote and recorded the song “Philadelphia Freedom” in honor of his friend King, and for the team to use as an anthem in 1975. John attended the home matches wearing the team’s uniform and sat on the bench with the players.
