Fehm, Groff and 4x400 Claim Gold to Lead Men's Track & Field at Rider 5- Way Meet

The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Rider 5 Way Meet.

The Hawks won two individual events and one relay in a strong overall showing.

FIELD EVENTS:

  • Following a stellar indoor campaign, junior Patrick Fehm picked up right where he left off; winning the high jump in a convincing fashion. Fehm notched a best mark of 2.05m.
  • In the long jump, rookie Logan Henry took fifth overall with a best mark of 6.75m. Junior John Salt placed eighth with a best mark of 6.24m. Rounding out the Hawk performances in this event was Josh Bacon, who took 12th with a best mark of 5.88m.

TRACK EVENTS:

  • Josh Thaler led a contingency of Hawks in the 1,500m, clocking a nine-second collegiate-best time of 4:02.54 which was good for fifth overall. Two seconds behind him was junior Sean Murphy , who took seventh in a time of 4:04.76. Junior Vincent Twomey took ninth in a time of 4:06.50. Dawson Baptiste (12th 4:09.99), Carter Geer (19th, 4:19.39), Ryne Beni (21st, 4:19.99), Ben Klinger (23rd, 4:29.88), and Andrew Rebele (28th 4:58.71) also represented the Crimson and Gray in this event.
  • Two rookies placed in the top 10 of the 400m. Leading the way was James Mackey Jr., who ran a collegiate-best time of 50.33 to place sixth overall in the 400m. Regent Walden took ninth in a time of 51.26. Coming back for their second event of the day Thaler (52.09) and Murphy (53.44) placed 11th and 13th respectively. Kevin Dennin (17th, 55.91) also raced in this event.
  • Rookie Alex McGeary made his collegiate outdoor debut placing ninth in the 100m dash. He recorded a time of 11.88.
  • Junior Tommy Johnson took second in the 800m dipping under the two-minute mark with a time of 1:58.02. Sophomore Lleyton Winslow was sixth with a time of 2:01.09.
  • Coming back from the 400m, Mackey also led the Hawks in the 200m to place seventh in a time of 23.35. Dennin was 12th in a time of 24.62.
  • Sophomore Aidan Groff won the 3,000m in a time of 8:58.99. Aidan Doherty crossed the line next for SJU in a time of 9:08.68. Dylan Zuch (12th, 9:36.92) and Owen Hibshman (15th, 10:13.01) raced in this event as well.
  • The 4x400m relay of Winslow, Darren Cammauf, Johnson, and Walden ran to a narrow victory over Fordham. The group clocked a time if 3:24.92.


UP NEXT:
The Hawks will head down to Williamsburg, Virginia to compete in the Colonial Relays hosted by William and Mary. The two day meet will begin competition on Friday March 30th and will conclude on Saturday April 1st.
