Environmental Science Student Shares About his Hands-On Learning Experience

USciences Environmental Science student Perry Giambuzzi ES’20, gained hands-on experience spent the summer working at the Morton Arboretum in Lislie, IL, and wrote about his experience.

Giambuzzi wrote specifically about the process and importance of tree coring in research, which he conducted at the organization’s Center for Tree Science in 2019. “The process of looking into a tree’s past and dating its growth rings is known as Dendrochronology, a technique that has been used for many years to study trees.” he writes.

Giambuzzi explains that his research focused on understanding how the growth patterns of a tree can vary based on their individual sensitivities to variations in climate, and how these growth patterns shape a tree over time.
