APEX: The Appalachian Experience is now an award-winning documentary. The SJU film is receiving accolades and making the rounds at a number of film festivals this fall.

The documentary based on the University’s spring break immersion program (APEX) will receive a laurel award and will be screened at the Queen City Film Festival on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Cumberland, Maryland. The film will also be screened at the FirstGlance Film Festival in Philadelphia in November. Earlier this fall, the documentary received award recognition by The Best Shorts Competition and was featured at the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando, Florida in September.

The documentary, which debuted to a standing room only crowd in the Foley Center last spring, was directed by Jeffrey Wallin ’10, an APEX participant, leader and facilitator since 2007, and produced by Matt Fullmer MBA '18, former APEX director and current associate director for community relations at the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support.
