Former Hawk Nivins '09 to be Inducted Into the Big 5 Hall of Fame
Nivins, who played professionally for eight seasons and currently serves as an assistant coach with the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G League, is one of the top post players in Saint Joseph's history.
Former Saint Joseph's standout Ahmad Nivins '09 will be inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2022, organization officials announced on Monday.
Nivins, who will be honored at the Philadelphia Big 5 Awards Banquet at The Palestra on April 11, is joined by Sonny Hill, Cheryl Reeve (La Salle), Bruce Lefkowitz (Penn), Marty Stahurski (Temple), Allan Ray (Villanova) and Harry Perretta (Villanova) in the Hall of Fame Class of 2021-22.
One of the top post players in Saint Joseph's history, Nivins capped his four-year career as the Hawks' all-time leader in field goal percentage (.627), fifth all-time in scoring (1,789 points) and blocked shots (166), and sixth all-time in rebounds (955). A three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference, All-Big 5 and All-District selection, he led the Hawks to a 2008 NCAA Tournament appearance and set a single-season record for field goal percentage (.647). As a senior, Nivins earned both the Geasey Award as the Big 5 Player of the Year and A-10 Player of the Year, while also garnering honorable mention All-America accolades. Drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the Second Round of the 2009 NBA Draft, Nivins played professionally for eight seasons, and currently serves as an assistant coach with the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G League.
"The 2022 Big 5 Hall of Fame Class is star studded, and we are proud to see one of Hawk Hill's finest competitors to be recognized in Ahmad Nivins," says Saint Joseph's Head Coach Billy Lange. "Ahmad was one of the rare college players who could impact and dominate a game on both ends. One of the best to ever do it and this honor signifies that. Congratulations to Ahmad and the rest of the deserving inductees."
The 2021-22 Philadelphia Big 5 Awards Banquet is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 11. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 (click here to purchase tickets online), or can be purchased for $20 at the door that evening.
