Eligibility, Termination and Denial of Services
Due to the Kinney Center’s training model, participants may not be accepted into programs, or they may be removed from programs, if they require intensive behavioral support. This includes, but is not limited to, severe aggressive behaviors or intensive self-injury. If you are unsure if a potential applicant will qualify, it is recommended to submit the applicant’s most recent behavior intervention plan and up to date behavioral data for review. The Kinney Center may request that families come in for an observational visit post behavioral review.
There are rare instances where a participant is accepted for the Kinney Center’s service provision training model, but cannot be adequately supported. For clients receiving services through a state waiver, the Kinney Center will follow the guidelines outlined here.
While the Kinney Center reserves the right to discontinue programs and services at any time for any reason, with the exclusion of those protected by law, the following scenarios are examples of what may constitute a termination of care or refusal to serve:
- The person’s welfare and the person’s needs cannot be met in the facility;
- The safety of the person or others in the program is endangered and positive support strategies were attempted and have not achieved and effectively maintained safety for the person or others;
- The health of the person or others in the program would otherwise be endangered;
- The program has not been paid for services;
- The program ceases to operate;
In the case of termination of services, the Kinney Center’s full-time staff will communicate with the interdisciplinary team, which may include the participant, the participant’s guardian, the Support Coordinator, a representative from the Administrative Entity, and other interested, appropriate parties, either via phone call or in person, and document the conversation in writing. The Kinney Center understands that a change in services can be hard on both the participant being served and the family. The Kinney Center will do its best to provide as much advance notice as possible, but there may be times where little to no advance notice is possible.
The Kinney Center offers programming for all ages and ability levels. Due to our training model, individuals may not be accommodated if behavioral support is required. This includes but is not limited to severe aggressive behaviors, intensive self-injury, and/or high rates of elopement. It is also required for all participants to be fully potty-trained. If you are unsure if your child will qualify, it is recommended to submit your most recent behavior intervention plan and up-to-date behavioral data for review. Families may be requested to come in for an observational visit per behavioral review. For additional requisitions regarding eligibility, please contact the Kinney Center Programs Team.
