Visitation Policy

The Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support has policies in place with regard to visitation/observation. Such policies exist and are necessary so that the privacy and confidentiality of all individuals are protected. It is also to limit the number of disruptions during crucial instructional time. These policies apply to all parents/guardians/surrogates and professionals that work with the participants outside of the Kinney Center. We are asking that you take time to review and adhere to the following policies and guidelines.

  1. All visitations must be requested and scheduled at least 24 hours in advance with the Director of Programs, Training and Service. To request a visitation, please download and complete the "Observation Request And Confidentiality Agreement Form". The form can then be mailed or hand-delivered to the Kinney Center, emailed to kinneyprograms@sju.edu, or faxed to 610-660-2175. The Director of Programs, Training and Service will promptly notify you if the visit is possible on the day requested.

  2. If the visitor is someone other than a parent/guardian, the parent/guardian must download and complete the "Parental Permission Form For An Outside Observer". The form can then be mailed or hand-delivered to the Kinney Center, emailed to kinneyprograms@sju.edu, or faxed to 610-660-2175. This form must be in the possession of the Kinney Center before the visitation/observation can take place.

  3. Visitations are limited to 30 minutes; 15 minutes of observation followed by 15 minutes of consultation with the Director of Programs, Training and Service; the observer has the option to use the entire 30 minutes for observing and consult with the Director at a later time. For all programs other than Camp Kinney, visitors are limited to one 30-minute observation during the duration of the program. For Camp Kinney programs, visitors are limited to one 30-minute observation for each two-week period the child is attending camp. It is strongly discouraged to have visitors attend the first week of camp, as the campers are still transitioning into the program and fewer interruptions/distractions will help ease this transition period.

  4. No more than two adult visitors should be present in the room at any one time.

  5. All parents/visitors must have signed the "Observation Request And Confidentiality Agreement Form" to protect the privacy of the participants.
To protect the privacy of participants and families that we serve, all parents/visitors must refrain from discussing participants' names or diagnoses outside of the classroom.

  6. All parents/visitors should refrain from photographing, videotaping, or tape recording unless you have administrative approval.
All parents/visitors should interact with participants only when invited by the staff.

  7. If you want to speak directly to the Director of Programs, Training and Service, please make arrangements to do so either prior to the observation, after the observation or at another time that the Director indicated she will be free. You may also download and complete the "Observation Questions Form" and leave it with the Director of Programs, Training and Service at the completion of an observation.

  8. Unless prearranged with the Director of Programs, Training and Service, please direct all questions to the Director and not the staff.
