What is the Neurodiversity in the Workplace Graduate Certificate?
Over the last 10 years, a growing number of practitioners and management researchers have turned their attention to a segment of the population that is growing in number, represents a potential source of valuable talent, but experiences both unemployment and underemployment: Workers with autism. According to the Center for Disease Control, one in every 50 to 68 children in the United States is and will be diagnosed with autism, and an estimated 500,000 young adults on the autism spectrum are expected to join the workforce in the next five years.
Curriculum
As a certificate program, students can fulfill the requirements as a stand-alone program or as part of the MBA or MS in HR or ODL programs.
Four (4) Required Courses:
- MGT 505: Introduction to Autism for Work*
- MGT 550: Leadership and Ethics
- or MGT 556: Human Resource Fundamentals
- MGT 555: Equity in Organizations
- MGT 585: Supporting Neurodiverse Workplaces
*This is a new course that is being developed by Dr. Theresa McFalls and Dr. Joseph McCleery from the Kinney Center and will be similar to the undergraduate version that already exists.
What can I do with a Graduate Certificate in Neurodiversity in the Workplace?
The Neurodiversity in the Workplace Graduate Certificate is for professionals who are likely to work with individuals with autism during their careers as potential employers, HR professionals, colleagues, or allies. Our industry partners such as Lincoln Financial, SAP America, Merrill Lynch, Ernst & Young, and Aer Lingus, which have all instituted autism-at-work programs. From learning about the manifestations of the condition to specific HR and management practices, this certificate will help managers and human resource professionals to welcome this important and talented segment of the workforce into their organizations.
