    Saint Joseph's University mourns the loss of legendary basketball coach Dr. Jack Ramsay '49, who passed away overnight at his home in Naples, Fla., at the age of 89 after a decade-long battle with cancer.

    PHILADELPHIA (April 25, 2014) – Each week, 13 Saint Joseph’s students visit six local middle schools to spend their afternoons with young students interested in world affairs. The Global Smarts Mentoring Program internship gives SJU students the opportunity to learn about a major global issue and a foreign country and then bring that knowledge to middle school students preparing for the Junior Model United Nations simulation at Temple University in May.

    Two red-tailed hawks are nesting on SJU's Maguire Campus. “Hawkcam” provides a live stream of the pair. Campus hawk-watchers hope hawk babies will soon be seen.

    Saint Joseph’s University recently earned recognition as a Fair Trade University, as determined by Fair Trade Colleges and Universities. Only 19 other higher education institutions have been granted this status.

    The SJU Chapter of Sigma Xi will host the 25th annual student research symposium on Saturday, April 12. Keynote speaker is Paul Steinhardt, Ph.D., Princeton University’s Albert Einstein Professor of Science.

    PHILADELPHIA (April 7, 2014) — The 15th annual senior art thesis exhibition will be on display at Saint Joseph’s University Gallery Fri., April 11-Sat., May 17. Nine senior artists will showcase their work on the second floor of Merion Hall on the James J. Maguire ’58 Campus. An opening reception will be held Fri., April 11, from 5-9 p.m.

    PHILADELPHIA (April 8, 2014)—The Saint Joseph’s University Theatre Company is returning to a classic musical with their spring performance of “Guys and Dolls.” Performances begin on Thursday, April 10, and end on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m., on campus in Bluett Theater in Post Hall.

    Saint Joseph’s University’s Alpha Zeta Chapter of Alpha Upsilon Alpha, the International Reading Association’s (IRA) Honor Society, will host its annual reading conference on campus Sat., May 3, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in the Wolfington Teletorium in Mandeville Hall.

    On April 27, for the first time in history, two Roman Catholic popes will be canonized on the same day: Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II will be elevated to sainthood in St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome, joining the 10,000 saints who are recognized in church documents.

    Saint Joseph’s will host two vigils this month aimed at increasing violence awareness. The Richard Johnson Center for Anti-Violence will host a candlelight vigil to honor the 247 homicide victims in Philadelphia over the last year, on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of St. Joseph-Michael J. Smith, S.J. Memorial.

    PHILADELPHIA (April 2, 2014) – Hand-in-Hand, a campus organization that raises awareness and acceptance for individuals with special needs, will host their 38th annual carnival, “Dive in with Hand-in-Hand!,” on Sat., April 12, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on campus in the Hagan Arena.
