    PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 27, 2012) - For many students, spring break means relaxation or vacation, but for 420 Saint Joseph’s University students, staff and alumni, spring break 2012 is a chance to give back and spend time in service to others. On Friday, March 2, they depart for one of 15 different service sites scattered across the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. Students will head south after a brief celebration held in the Chapel of St. Joseph-Michael J.

    PHILADELPHIA (February 27, 2011) —As the autism field grows, future care providers are seeking the proper training and credentials from their undergraduate coursework to give them a competitive edge. Saint Joseph’s University’s Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support recently applied for and received approval for its minor in autism studies from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.® (BACB).

    PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 23, 2012) – Stormwater, which is created by runoff of excess rainwater and melted snow, causes downstream flooding, stream bank erosion, sewer overflows and habitat destruction. To help address these conditions, Saint Joseph’s University and the Lower Merion Conservancy will present “Stormwater Strategies: A Technical Workshop,” in the Campion Student Center on Tues., March 6, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The workshop is free and open to the public; registration is required.

    With the mental health stigmas that persist in today’s society, few college students have the courage to seek help if they find themselves in any level of distress resulting from the mental toll that the pressures of college can present.  Active Minds, a student-led organization new to Saint Joseph’s, seeks to remove these stigmas, and to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, especially during the college years.

    PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 15, 2012) - Artist Kip Deeds merges numerous styles and mediums together in order to create one intricate piece of work. A collection of his complex compositions, titled “All Things Great and Small” will be exhibited at Saint Joseph’s University Gallery Monday, Feb. 27 – Friday, March 30. An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, March 1, 6-8 p.m. The Gallery will close for spring break, March 5-11.

    Frank Bernt, Ph.D., professor of education, will head to South America this spring through a Fulbright Specialist Grant. Bernt will teach courses in assessment and adolescent spirituality at the Universidad Católica de Uruguay in Montevideo in April and May.

    PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 9, 2012) – Paul Baumann, the editor of Commonweal magazine, will speak at Saint Joseph’s University on Monday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m., in the Doyle Banquet Hall North, Campion Student Center. His lecture, entitled “Liberal, Conservative or Just Catholic? Religious Identity in a Pluralistic World,” is co-sponsored by Saint Joseph’s Department of Theology and Religious Studies and Commonweal’s CampusSpeakers Program. The event is free and open to the public.
