St. Ignatius of Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits)

About Us

At Saint Joseph’s University, our model of education is rooted in the nearly 500-year-old Jesuit tradition—an approach that combines the liberal arts, the pursuit of personal and professional excellence, a concern for social justice and the common good, and a lifelong commitment to learning and finding God in all things.

The Office of Mission brings these values to life through programs, resources, and initiatives that connect the SJU community to our Jesuit mission. All members of our community are invited to take part in programs inspired by St. Ignatius Loyola and the mission of SJU.

175 years of Mission

This year our University community celebrates 175 years since the founding of St. Joseph's College in 1851 on Willing's Alley in Olde City Philadelphia by Rev. Felix Barberlin, S.J. Celebrating this history, the Office of Mission is planning a variety of events to celebrate over a century of Catholic Jesuit Mission.
