If you feel most alive when you are shooting a photograph, sculpting, drawing or painting, or looking at a work of art, you have had a deep experience of the creative process and may be happiest making a life in art. With a combination of studio courses informed by art history classes, the art program at Saint Joseph's University offers the opportunity to explore the depth and breadth of your individual talent and calling as an artist or art historian in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The department's award-winning faculty, all professional individuals, have exhibited their work in prestigious galleries and published their writings around the globe. This diverse group of mentors painters, ceramicists, photographers, sculptors and art historians are also dedicated teachers who challenge and inspire you to develop your own self-expression and personal aesthetic. Senior art majors can also enroll in the yearlong capstone course, which culminates in an exhibit of their work in the University's professional gallery or a presentation and paper representing original research.
In addition to pursuing graduate and professional work in the arts, majors have developed careers in a wide range of art-related areas, including advertising, commercial photography, gallery and museum work, graphic/web design, interior design, fashion design, architecture and teaching, from the elementary to the college level.
