Supervisor of Special Education Certification

A supervisor of special education has the primary responsibility of overseeing the planning and delivery of curriculum and instruction in K-12 special education classroom programs and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

In addition, supervisors of special education often serve as administrative liaisons between school district administration and classroom teachers and are responsible for directing professional development for classroom special education teachers and instructional support.

Saint Joseph’s supervisor of special education certification (K-12) program requires eight courses (24 credits), which may be taken in conjunction with the M.S. in educational leadership degree option. Students must hold a valid teaching certification in special education and have at least five years of full-time teaching experience in special education before applying for the certification.
