Lactation Policy

Saint Joseph's University believes that healthy employees and families create a more productive and positive working environment.  Breastfeeding offers the most complete form of nutrition for babies, and provides a multitude of health benefits for both infant and mother.  As part of our family-friendly policies and benefits, Saint Joseph's University provides a supportive environment to enable breastfeeding employees to continue providing milk for their infants by expressing their breast milk during work when separated from their children.

Any employee who is breastfeeding her child will be provided reasonable break times to express breast milk for her baby.  If the employee has her own private office, she may use her office to express breast milk during the workday.  If the employee does not have her own private office, she is free to use the Lactation Room located in Campion Student Center, Room 208B.  Consult with the Manager of Employee Relations in the Office of Human Resources (Nancy DuBoise x3313) in advance if you wish to use the Lactation Room in Campion, so that you can receive assistance in both scheduling the room and gaining swipe card access to the room.  For general rules regarding use of the lactation room in Campion, see Lactation Room Rules.
