Eligibility The photo contest is open to Saint Joseph’s University undergraduates who studied abroad during the 2012-2013 academic year. For purposes of the contest, the academic year comprises of Fall 2012, Spring 2013, Summer 2013 and Study Tours that took place within the academic year. Photos must be original work (no professional photos) and must have been taken by the entrant during their study abroad period.
Subject Matter There is no limit on subject matter, theme or style, but we suggest that students submit photos that capture the essence of their individual study abroad experience (i.e. interacting with locals, visiting “off the beaten path” places, etc.). Entries do not have to be limited to your program site. (A student studying in Florence, for example, could submit a photo taken in Venice during an interim sojourn.) We also reserve the right to exclude any photos deemed “inappropriate” by the University.
Number and Format of Submissions If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may submit one photograph. Photos must be submitted in printed and electronic form. Your photographs may be black-and-white or color.
Printed form: Each photo needs to be submitted to the CIP office in printed form for judging purposes. Each photo should be an unmounted print measuring eight inches by ten inches (8 X 10). Except for these size stipulations, there are no restrictions. Photos may be printed on any kind of paper from any kind of film stock using any kind of printing process. Please be sure to include your name, study abroad location and term, as well as a brief caption.
Electronic form: We also ask that all entries be sent via e-mail to the Study Abroad Advisor (ctomlins; lmartin) in jpeg format.
Application Process and Deadline Photo submissions will need to be submitted to the CIP office and by e-mail by Friday, September 6th at 5PM. Late entries will not be considered.
Prizes All entries will be displayed at the 9th Annual Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, September 10th from 11am-1:30pm on Campion Walkway and evaluated by a team of judges from across campus. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The winners will be notified by e-mail or phone, and their photos will be displayed in the CIP office and on our website, and an announcement will be made to students, faculty and staff on mySJU.
Important Advisory By submitting images, you are attesting that you have the rights to use the image and give the Center for International Programs the right to use the image for promotional purposes. Copyright remains with photographer and the Center for International Programs will not sell images to any third party. Photographer will be credited when possible, but may not always receive credit. Please keep in mind that photos will NOT be returned after the contest.
