The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires all pre-service teachers participating in Student Teaching, Internships, Clinical, and Field Experiences to obtain the following clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Criminal History Record (Act 34)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 51)
- Federal FBI Criminal History Report
- Proof of Tuberculin Skin Test
Lab students and student/intern teachers must have these clearances prior to beginning their field placement. All clearances must be valid through to the end of the lab or student/intern teaching placement.
The Federal FBI Criminal History Report, the PA State Criminal History Record, PA Child Abuse History Clearance and Proof of Tuberculin Skin Test are valid for one calendar year. ALL MUST BE RENEWED EVERY YEAR. MAY IS THE BEST MONTH TO RENEW CLEARANCES.
Students are individually responsible for renewing their clearances before they expire. Assistance is given only to Freshmen for obtaining the Child Abuse clearance. After the Freshman year, students must apply on their own. The Child Abuse Clearance requires a $10 money order (not check) and a paper application which must be sent to Harrisburg. At least 4-6 weeks is required to receive this clearance.
Students who do not have all clearances will not be allowed to complete the lab or student/intern teaching placement.
