Saturday, November 8, 2014 -- The Philly-Area Girls Enjoying Science (PAGES) Mini Conference: McNulty Scholar Program alumna Molly Southwell '13, who is currently pursuing her master's degree in biology at SJU, coordinated a booth for this biannual fair at Chestnut Hill College that promotes interest in science and mathematics among 6th grade girls. Volunteers Kathleen Logan (Scholar '16) and Valerie Jenkins (Scholar '17) assisted Molly with an activity entitled "The Chemistry and Behavior of Bioluminescence" using glow sticks and paper fish to replicate an underwater ecosystem.
Wednesday, October 22, 2014 -- The Annual Lecture of the McNulty Scholars Program: This year, we were honored to host guest speaker Professor Kathleen J. Stebe, Deputy Dean for Research, School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Richer and Elizabeth Goodwin Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Stebe's seminar, entitled "Creating Order: Opportunities for Directed Assembly" followed a morning of events highlighted by a roundtable discussion about Women in STEM with a group of McNulty Program students.
Tuesday, September 23, 2014 -- The 6th Annual Welcome Reception: This event, in the Cardinal Foley Center, was hosted by C. Kevin Gillespie, S.J. ’72, President of Saint Joseph’s University, Dr. Amanda McCombs Thomas, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Anne Welsh McNulty to formally welcome the scholars, associates, and fellows of the John P. McNulty Scholarship Program and their families. Students who conducted research over the summer or had embarked on their senior capstone projects were invited to present their posters and publications to the guests.
Wednesday, August 27, 2014 -- Meet & Greet Reception: Hosted by new program administrators Dr. Sandra Fillebrown, Program Director and Dr. Jean Smolen, Associate Program Director, the newest cohort of scholars, associate scholars, and fellows were welcomed into the McNulty Scholars Program and had the chance to mingle with current program participants and faculty mentors. McNulty Scholar Lianette Pappaterra '15 presented former Program Director Dr. Christina King Smith with a gift in recognition of her years of leadership and commitment to the program.
