What is the Appalachian Experience?
A service-immersion program in the Ignatian tradition. SJU students spend spring break week serving with and for communities in central Appalachia, while learning about the history, culture, and concerns of the Appalachian region.
APEX Mission
Guided by the mission of St. Joseph’s University, and the Catholic Jesuit tradition, APEX provides an Ignatian experiential learning opportunity of service, community and reflection that:
- Promotes engaged citizenship by serving with and for others
- Creates inclusive communities of belonging
- Encourages a lifelong commitment to service, kinship, and social justice
