Dr. Mitchell began his career as a Health Administrator over 25-years ago, and continues to function as a manager in healthcare and public health settings. He began his career as the Director of Health and Recreation at St. Mary's Villa for Children, where he managed health and recreation programs for children of all ages. As a Program Manager for the Montgomery County Health Department, Dr. Mitchell managed the program implementation and evaluation of countywide health education and promotion programs. During his tenure with Wordsworth Residential, he functioned as the Director of Residential Services, where he was responsible for the strategic financial planning and oversight of a 24-hour residential care program. In 1998, he began his pharmaceutical career with AstraMerck, where he enjoyed a successful career as a sales representative. Through the 1999 Astra AB and Zeneca Group merger to form AstraZeneca plc, Dr. Mitchell continued to function as a sales representative, marketing gastrointestinal and cardiovascular medications. During his tenor with AstraZenca, he collaborated with physicians and discovered the diverse and unique needs of the deaf patient population. As a Health Administrator with Corizon Healthcare, Dr. Mitchell successfully managed the operations of health care facilities, and achieved 100% accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. In 2009, Dr. Mitchell began a career as Professor and Dean of Academics with DeVry University. He was responsible for teaching in the onsite, hybrid and online programs, along with program oversight and overall leadership for the Colleges of Business Administration, Engineering and Sciences and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Research

Dr. Mitchell is currently conducting research focusing on health disparities within the deaf population, with a focus on Drug Recall Notification Availability and Adverse Events Reporting in the deaf population.
